FIX BLURRY IMAGES with AI in Canva
I am always getting logos that are too small to be featured well in my marketing graphics. In this post, I am going to show you a quick hack that will help you fix blurry images or tiny logos. Without further ado, let's hop in.
When you log into your Canva account you're going to see a button on the left-hand side marked apps. Apps are an incredible new feature of Canva that allows the platform to integrate third-party tools into the back end, giving you more design abilities without having to leave the platform. So there are constantly new apps that are added. And you can see the categories on the left-hand side, workplace essentials, AI-Powered, Productivity, Design Essentials, and Share and publish. I am going to spotlight two different apps, but I would encourage you to poke around, look at the different categories, and see if there is an app that addresses a problem that maybe you have had in the past.
One way to make sure that you have access to all of the apps that are integrated within Canva is to have a Canva Pro account. If you're currently using a free one and you would like access to a 30-day free trial of Canva Pro, just go to lashondabrown.com/canva.
In this particular scenario, I was hosting a live stream to introduce some of my fellow guest speakers, and I had to find headshots for each speaker. Now I could have asked them directly for their headshots, but I knew they were featured on the signature CEO website. Sometimes what happens is the quality of the headshot is not as high as what you would like for it to be. There is an app integrated in Canva that can help with this problem. Another problem that I see people running into a lot is trying to find sponsor logos to include in their marketing. You may find yourself in a position where, when you Google the company, the results that appear are not high quality enough to be featured without being blurry.
We're going to start with the logo example. Say, for instance, I want to add the Interact logo to my website. I may have a copy of their logo, but the quality isn't where I want it to be. So the tool that we're going to use to fix this logo is called Pixel Enhancer.
You can find that in the search bar. Whether you are clicking on apps or looking within the design editor. You can enhance your images with AI, giving your photos a high-quality, professional-grade enhancement. When the app is open in a design it can read and change the content of the design, and it can access your uploaded content in Canva. I will select the image and drop it into a Canva design, and you can see within the design, that it is pretty pixely and not very sharp.

What we want to do is locate apps on the left-hand side, and we can start typing in Pixel Enhancer. Once that appears, we're just going to click on the app and then enhance the selected image. It will give you a preview of what the image will look like on the left-hand side, and to replace it, we simply need to hit replace. Pixel Enhancer has successfully uploaded the media to the library, and you can see now the image has been enhanced. At the bottom you can see the number of credits that I have. There is a limit to how many times you can do this per day, but you can always subscribe to get more credits.
In this scenario, I was doing a live stream with the co-author of the book The Go-Giver, Bob Burke, and this was the image that was submitted. And when it's this size, it's not that bad. It's not super blurry. As I begin to drag this image and make it larger, you can see that a lot of the quality of the image gets lost the more that I expand the image. The tool that we're going to use to fix this is actually within the photo editor of Canva. We're going to select that image, click on Edit, and then you'll notice, under apps within the photo editor, there is a tool called the Image Upscaler. We're going to give that a click and we're going to look at the options.
We have the ability to 2x 4x, 8x 16x our image, and all we need to do is click on upscale. It's going to show us what the original looks like, and we're going to click on upscale. It will scan the image and give us the results. You can see, not only did it upscale the image, but it also smoothed it out a bit. If we like the after, we can just go ahead and replace it, and then we can use this image in our design.
There are tons of apps that are built into the back end. If you find yourself in a position, whether you are hosting an event in person or online, and you get headshots that are submitted that aren't the quality that you need, or logos that are far too small. Go ahead and check out the apps within Canva to give them a little tweak to make them look better in your Canva designs.
